Are Wax Melts Safe?

What do you think.. Are Wax Melts Safe?

So are wax melts safe? First of all, Many people looking for wax melts think about this question. You have to make up your own minds. When Melting Moments of Madness first started back in 2016. Interestingly, a lot of research went into the best ingredients to use. I only source the best ingredients on the market today sparing no expense when it comes to using quality. Obviously there are precautionery statements which by law come with fragrance oils in there concentrated form. Once mixed with wax the percentage of fragrance oil is a less concentrated state. To be exact we use 10% fragrance oil which is the maximum loading dose for wax melts. We ensure our formulas for mixing our wax melts are exact. Obviously you should always read the label before using your wax melts.

Here at Melting Moments of Madness we pride ourselves in bringing you quality fragranced wax melts for you to enjoy filling your home with beautiful aroma. Many people these days have concerns about the safety of children and their pets using wax melts around the home. We have researched for the safest ingredients to ensure our products are as safe as can be for your whole family.

Wax

Melting Moments of Madness decided to use Soy Wax for producing our wax melts. Again, we have taken a lot of time researching the different waxes and the pros and cons for each type of wax on the market today. Soy wax is derived from the soy bean, therefore, it is more natural and made from renewable sources. It is a natural alternative choice, to the traditional paraffin wax, and there is little impact on our environment using soy wax compared to paraffin wax. Please take a look at this article from the Independent News Paper which is an interesting read about how in particular Paraffin candles can be harmful to the environment and us.

It is popular because Soy wax is suitable for vegans/vegetarians and is not tested on animals. We wanted a natural wax that we could be sure was environmentally friendly and from a renewable source to try limiting our carbon footprint where ever possible.

Our Fragrances

The scents we use to fragrance our wax melts have been sourced carefully from our chosen fragrance suppliers and are fully compliant with IFRA (International Fragrance Association) with RIFM (Research Institute for Fragrance Materials) regulations. We pride ourself knowing that All fragrances are not tested on animals, cruelty free, suitable for vegans/vegetarians and paraben free.

There is evidence that some essential oils are unsafe for pets you may have at home. For this reason Melting Moments of Madness choose to use synthetic fragrance oils to fragrance our wax melts that fill your home with aroma. Synthetic fragrance oil seems to be a safer option to essential oils provided they are not consumed. All of our fragranced wax melts will come with the CLP ( Classification, Labelling and Packaging) information as per the legislation. ( We are currently updating our CLP labelling system)

Each fragrance oil has gone through numorous testing by our suppliers in different environments and then again trialled by ourselves to ensure its quality before our products reach our customers to enjoy.

CLP & Precautionery Statements for Fragrance Oil

CLP Labels are important and are a piee of legislation which a wax melt or candle maker have to comply with to legally sell our products here in the uk.

Due to our fragrances being synthetic, like in any air fresheners, carpet freshener, cleaning products used around your home, washing powders and Personal Care products etc, they do come with precautionary statements and some ingredients have warnings implimented.

Our CLP labels include signal words, hazard statement and business contact details for each
hazard class and category. All fragrance oils come to us with warnings and like anything else, the warnings are for precaution. Here are some of the precautionery and hazardous warnings statements which you may come across with your wax melts, please note they mostly relate to the fragrance oil added to the wax.

Hazardous Info

You will most often read about 2 main hazards on the back of your wax products which are:
(1) reference to Skin Sensitise and (2) Reference to Environmental Hazards

CLP Label
  • May cause irritation to the skin and if so, seek medical advice.
  • Do not ingest
  • Avoid release to the environment
  • Dispose of contents/container to approved disposal site, in accordance with local regulations
  • Harmful to Aquatic Animals

We use the best ingredients and are adamant they have to be the safest too, with reassurence from our suppliers. Obviously, anyone who suffers from any medical issues regarding breathing should think twice about using wax melts or air fresheners. It is also about being sensible and staying safe.

Not many vendors actually have the ingredients from fragrance oils added to their products on websites today. We are currently updating this information onto our website. Soon you will be able to see exactly what each fragranced wax melt contains in the fragrance oil. There are a wide range of ingredients which make up certain scent oils and there are some ingredients which may be an irritant to your skin if you come into direct contact. If you have any queries or concerns regarding allergies please send us a message for further information and we will gladly assist you.
